Latest on the Beachin’ 101 cruise in MySpace

Well, I’ve finally signed up for Myspace and all of you Myspacers (?) can find me at www.myspace.com/weekenddriver. Don’t worry, the website isn’t going away, but in today’s multi format world, you gotta be in Myspace, I’m told. So be my friend.

I have checked out some other folks and found that Beachin’ 101’s John Daley is there. John owns the 101 Cafe in Oceanside and back in ’06, I did a video on the first Beachin’ 101 Cruise, which you’ll find in various locations on the web (check the Highway 101 section of my website).

Well, John has videos posted from the more recent Beachin’ cruises… here’s the one from 2008.

Beach’n 101 Cruise

See you in Myspace? And will you be my friend? Hmmmmmm……..

Highway 101 Video

Here’s a clip (click here if you can’t see it) from the series I did with KGTV-10 in San Diego back in 2004, after Weekend Driver San Diego was published. Photographer Lee Louis did a great job shooting and putting together these reports, that were put on the station’s mid-day newscast. It was a lot of fun and it’s too bad that Channel 10 decided not to do any more than the five we originally did. Anyhow, enjoy the show. And by the way, if you want to read the Highway 101 stories, get your copy of Weekend Driver San Diego and make a starving author happy. Or, check out the online samples in the weekenddriver.com Highway 101 section.

By the way, if you’re very observant, in the shot of me and the Miata crossing a bridge in Carlsbad, you’ll see the front fender is caved in. I got nailed by an idiot in a taxicab in downtown San Diego on my way to shoot that story.

Summer on the Strand

Keep heading south for your best shot at least a little open road — if you’re lucky. Imperial Beach and the Silver Strand generally are good cruise routes even in the summer. Coronado brings drivers back to gridlock, but it’s a small island and the payoffs are great restaurants plus cool ocean and bay breezes.
