Grab the grandkids, grab the grandparents but be sure to grab your comfortable shoes, as 2,500 hot rods, custom and classic (mostly American) cars are invading the Del Mar Fairgrounds today through Sunday.
It’s the 17th annual Good Guys Del Mar Nationals, and for the price of admission, you’ll see “over 2,500 of the finest hot rods, customs, muscle cars, tricked out trucks and classics in the country on display both indoor and outdoor as they compete for a shot to win the coveted Goodguys 2017 Street Rod D’ Elegance Award,” says a news release from the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
“The jam-packed weekend also features hundreds of vendor exhibits, the earth shaking Goodguys ‘Nitro Thunderfest’ vintage dragster exhibition, the ultra-intense Goodguys Autocross timed racing competition, a swap meet and Auto Trader Classics Cars 4 Sale Corral, live music and free Kids Zone… Plus, late model American made or powered muscle cars, customs and trucks are welcome on April 2nd for K & N Filters All American Sunday.”
If you’re looking for a good drive to Del Mar, check out the Quintessential California book on Amazon Kindle (it could be a free download for you!), or the print chapter in Joyrides Around San Diego. It runs from Oceanside down the old Coast Highway to Del Mar. When your feet get worn out, take the rest of the drive through Torrey Pines.
I’ll be wandering around there sometime over the weekend. Can’t miss it.
