Can’t believe it’s been 13 years since I went driving with KGTV photog Lee Louis (since retired) down old Highway 101 in San Diego County.

We started in Oceanside and hit the sites and eats along the old road, the Quintessential California chapter in the updated Joyrides Around San Diego, of course available in print and on Kindle.

I was promoting my first book of drives, Weekend Driver San Diego, and hoping Channel 10 would pick me up as a regular feature contributor to the news. That didn’t happen, but it was fun nonetheless.

The current Joyrides updates and gives new twists to the drive down this beautiful, old highway, which then-101 Café owner John Daley called “one of the three, great road tours in the United States.” John’s since sold the diner but still loves his hometown.
