Flowers, bugs, birds and wildlife in Cardiff-By-The-Sea’s San Elijo Lagoon brought families from all over on Sunday, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune.

“That’s what it’s all about. You should love whatever lagoon you’re closest to, not just ours,” Elayna Flanders, education manager for the San Elijo Conservancy, told reporter Lauryn Schroeder.

Her story, and photos by Nelvin C. Cepeda (including the one used for this post) captured the family day at the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve and Nature Center highlighted the family day, where visitors explored the lagoon and learned about its uniqueness.

Take the drive in the Quintessential California chapter in my Joyrides Around San Diego. It’s a perfect San Diego day trip.
