Here’s one of my favorite trips of all time and one I always recommend that folks visiting San Diego try to make. It’s the ride up to Julian, the old gold mining town about 4,200 feet up in the mountains east of San Diego. The drive is challenging and this loop will take you both ways — up through Ramona and down through Cuyamaca. This trip, back in October 2009, was also a lot of fun, as my cousin Sofia and several friends were visiting from Sweden. The ride for the trip was a blinged-out Chrysler 300c. Enjoy Julian Loop.
