Just what do my high school job and hidden beach spots in La Jolla have in common?
Find out by reading my latest Weekend Driver column in the San Diego Union-Tribune, now online at the newspaper’s website.
The short answer: In high school (and my first semester at San Diego State University), I worked for my dad at the liquor store he managed in La Jolla. While delivering booze, I found some off-the-track beach access that I share with you in Weekend Driver column 115.
Once you get through the traffic, it is possible to find a virtually empty beach in La Jolla. Trust me; it makes a great day trip.
What am I driving? Is it a Fiat 124 Spider, a 1991 Mazda Miata, or a 1971 Ford LTD Country Squire? I mention all of them in the story. If you check out the link, do me a favor and leave some feedback.
And no, I haven’t been doing the column since I was in high school, it only seems that long; I started the column in 2000 and graduated high school in 1976. So there.
