The unseasonable cool storms in Southern California have given us a great gift for the Memorial Day weekend: comfortable temperatures in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

This time of year, the average high temperature in Borrego Springs is in the mid-90s to low 100s, but the forecast for this weekend is in the low-mid 80s Saturday and Sunday, touching 90 on Monday.

So take advantage of the delightful weather and get out to the desert for a great day or weekend of exploring. I’ve got two of my new Kindle books that cover the desert:

  • Off the Grid, an easy, off-pavement drive on the western edge of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, good for off-road novices with all-wheel-drive vehicles. Spectacular desert vistas along 8-mile driving route in sand;
  • Beautiful Badlands, where you’ll drive from the ocean to the desert, through the city, mountains, and the desert town of Borrego Springs, ending at Fonts Point for spectacular views of San Diego County’s unique ecosystem. Watch video»

It usually doesn’t cool off again in the desert until October, so this is a unique opportunity. Enjoy your trip.
