Oranges in Pauma Valley
The old Miata visits orange groves in Pauma Valley.

It might even be a bit late in the year for this — the orange blossoms might be gone — but a cruise through the agricultural heartland of San Diego County is always worth the trip. Add to it some of the best, twisting roads anywhere, and it makes for a great day.

It’s an oldie but a goodie, a Weekend Driver column from way back in 2006, it’s the Orange Blossom Special. Even if the oranges aren’t in bloom, the lilac ranch should be open, which it isn’t earlier in the year. We’ll also stop by a Native American reservation and mission, pass several casinos and give you plenty to explore. Have a great drive!
