Here’s one of my favorite photos and places to visit in the spectacular Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, which takes up most of the northeastern corner of San Diego County.
I took the photo back in 2004—on film, no less—and the colors, despite it being a scan, are true and the vista looks south to the U.S.-Mexico border.
I don’t know who the young lady was, but she’d climbed to the edge of Fonts Point, which as you see overlooks the Borrego Badlands. It’s since been published in the San Diego Union-Tribune and three of my books.
Visiting Fonts Point is fairly easy. It’s a two-hour drive from central San Diego. For complete directions, historical tidbits and more about your drive, you know where to go… Yes, it’s a chapter in my Joyrides series, available as a stand-alone Kindle book. Beautiful Badlands is just $2.99, or free if you’re an Kindle Unlimited member.
It’s also a chapter in the paper version, Joyrides Around San Diego, which includes nine other drives around San Diego. As I write this, Amazon.com has made it one of the Early Black Friday specials and it’s on sale for $12.19, 39 percent off the regular price.
