This great old postcard is of the Twin Inns, for decades a famous fried-chicken restaurant in Carlsbad, Calif., that’s now the Land and Water Co. restaurant.
The old guest registers from the Twin Inns, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune, were donated to the Carlsbad Historical Society and shed light on the variety of folks that stopped in over the years at the restaurant’s great location on what was the main highway between Los Angeles and San Diego.
The old postcard pictured here has three cars parked in front—all Cadillacs. The diners on the day the photo was taken were all at the top of the 50s heap, driving the Standard of the World and eating at what was one of the best restaurants on the road.
My Quintessential California drive will take you there.
