One of my favorite vistas is about half-way up Boulder Creek Road, just west of the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park.

I took this photo a couple of springs back; everything is green… well, as green as it gets around here. That’s Boulder Creek Road cutting into the hill to the right.

This route runs from Descanso to Pine Hills, just outside of the mountain town of Julian, then by Lake Cuyamaca and down through the park back to Descanso.

Boulder Creek Road is not paved, but the county does get out to regrade it a couple of times a year. If you have a truck or SUV with decent ground clearance, take it easy and you shouldn’t have a problem. Cars might also be able to take it, but be careful. The risk is yours.

This drive starts about 15 minutes east of El Cajon and it makes for a great getaway. And it’s just one of the 10 trips around San Diego in Joyrides Around San Diego.
