Hungry drivers along the Pacific Highway in 1920 must have been drooling once they pulled in here, the Twin Inns in Carlsbad.

It would be six years before this road was even designated U.S. 101, but Baron Long was dishing up chicken at this roadside inn. The building is still there, with the Land and Water Company restaurant, I believe, still serving chicken, but with a bit of a different recipe.
