With the epic comedy It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World running on several cable channels this week, it got me looking around for some new looks at the locations around Southern California. I took drivers on the road used in the opening scene, Palms to Pines Highway, in 2005; it looks pretty much the same today.

There’s a page that shows the 1963 photos from the movies and photos from the early 2000s. A video posted in 2014 does a nice job of dissolving from the actual movie footage to shots from 2014. It’s nicely done. Here’s another video, where a guy who normally does horror movie and video game videos, takes a trip to the locations. BTW, looking for some of the locations makes a great day trip from San Diego.
