Welcome to the restyled Joyride Guru® website!
It’s been about four years since I did a major overhaul of this website and I hope you enjoy it. There are a bunch of performance improvements, including a better interface on smartphones and tablets, as well as an up-to-date look.
For those of you in the website business, it also has up-to-date architecture using Gantry and a RocketTheme template running on WordPress. There are also a ton of goodies that I haven’t yet figured out how to use.
It’s also continuing the re-branding (or should I say co-branding, you marketing mavens out there) of the site as Joyride Guru®. Not that Weekend Driver is going anywhere… it’s still running in the San Diego Union-Tribune (and a column is running tomorrow, Feb. 14), but eventually the main URL for this site will be www.joyride.guru. The classic weekenddriver.com isn’t going away… well, it’s a technical thing. Joyride Guru®, of course, is the title for my series of books. And it looks like I’m almost ready to have the official trademark.
Back in 2012, the look was pretty cool, but we weren’t using smartphones for everything. Today, about half my traffic comes via smartphones. Folks also have different expectations about websites and pages; in four more years, 2020, that will have changed even more.
But the site is still your first stop when looking for a San Diego day trip… and a bunch of other fun places to visit.
Enjoy the new site and let me know what you think, via email, a comment here, Facebook or Twitter (the buttons are at the top of the page). And here are some screen shots from the wonderful Wayback Machine of my pages through the years. ⚙
