In the new L.A. Drives feature in the Los Angeles Times, reporter Charles Fleming takes readers over two, great coast-side roads north of Los Angeles, Topanga Canyon and Malibu Canyon roads, as well as the Mullholland Highway.

As with most travel stories, it talks more about destinations and things to do along the way; we all know it’s the road that matters. So, let me tell you that these roads are a lot of fun. Whether twisting up or down, the views of the Pacific that pop up from time-to-time are wonderful surprises, whether it’s your first of 500th trip. If you’re in the area, it makes a terrific day trip; headed up from San Diego, I’d stay overnight in Thousand Oaks and then make the trip.

Fleming doesn’t mention the famous Rock Store, one of the most famous biker bars. Maybe it was the bright blue Aston Martin V12 Vantage S convertible he was driving that made him self-conscious about stopping in.
