Gold and red are spreading around Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, according to the California Fall Color website.

“Color spotter Jim Van Matre posts a First Report from Cuyamaca Rancho State Park in San Diego County, where black oak and shrubs are a mix of chartreuse and red,” according to a post from Oct. 17. That’s Jim’s photo above.

This is a great website that has color reports from all over the state and is subtitled “Dude, autumn happens here, too.”

Cuyamaca is off of I-8; follow the signs and Highway 79 north. Or, take the easy way and get my book Joyrides Around San Diego in print or the Kindle edition, Curves, Dirt and Cuyamaca.
