Let’s take a look back 75 years or more at something that looks pretty much the same today.

Here’s a great old postcard showing what’s probably the northern part of South Grade Road (county S-6) with the Palomar Observatory in the background.

Even though there’s no copyright date on the postcard, by the look of the car and the dome being open in the daytime, it’s probably pre-World War II. The dome was completed in 1937. The 200-inch mirror, needed to see the stars, wasn’t placed inside until late 1947 and wasn’t first used until 1949.
